Silotite Offers a Smarter Way to Wrap a Bale

Silotite Offers a Smarter Way to Wrap a Bale

Agricultural professionals looking to optimise silage production can now rely on a smarter solution with Silotite's Film&Film (F&F), a balewrapping approach that offers protection, fermentation efficiency, and recycling convenience.

Compared to traditional netwrap solutions, the performance benefits of F&F delivers value that directly impacts the bottom line of farming businesses while aiming to minimise waste.

The key innovation lies in F&F’s combination of Baletite pre-oriented baler film with SilotitePro silage wrap. Unlike netwrap, which merely holds the bale’s shape and offers little to no protective benefits, Baletite adds two extra layers of film across the barrel, which constitutes 66% of a bale’s surface area. This improvement addresses the long-standing issue of uneven film application, where the ends of the bale receive significantly more coverage than the barrel.

The additional layers provided by Baletite are crucial for preventing punctures when freshly wrapped bales are dropped onto stemmy ground. By applying film in the opposite direction to the outer wrap, Baletite creates a more securely bound bale that resists oxygen ingress. This not only minimises spoilage and reduces silage losses but also improves the fermentation process, resulting in higher-quality feed.

Poor binding can cause bale diameters to expand, inviting unwanted air into the silage. As an example with a 125cm diameter silage bale, just a 15cm increase in diameter could allow up to 374 litres of air* to infiltrate the bale, containing oxygen, which could lead to mould growth and spoilage. Mouldy silage not only leads to wasted resources but also poses health risks to livestock. With Baletite, the superior holding force prevents bale expansion, ensuring dense, oxygen-free storage for the duration of the fermentation period.

Unlike netwrap, which often becomes tangled in silage and must be separated before recycling, Baletite is made from the same PE material as SilotitePro outer wrap, allowing for simpler disposal without the need for separation.

When paired with SilotitePro, farmers also benefit from longer rolls, improved efficiency and reduced plastic usage per bale thanks to the film’s reduced thickness. This integrated system not only boosts operational efficiency but also contributes to measurable cost savings over time.

“Berry Global’s Silotite Film&Film provides an innovative solution that ensures better silage quality, minimises losses, and simplifies recycling, all while aimimg to minimise packaging waste,” said Bart Geeraert, Commercial Director of Silotite. “Farmers and agricultural professionals looking to maximise their operations will find the transition to F&F a meaningful investment in both profitability and sustainability.”
